How to update/configure the Unity for DIY Board VIA Android OR Windows PC

This guide will show you how to update the firmware on your Focbox Unity using your Android phone or Windows computer. All Raptor 2.1 should be updated to this firmware unless otherwise stated as of 2/15/2019

Android Device method (Easiest method):

  1. Always be sure to download/update the latest version of the app from the Playstore.

  1. Once you have the latest version of the app on your device. You should power the board on, open the app and click on “Scan” and “Connect Bluetooth”

The bottom of the screen will say “Connected to xxxxxx”

You may or may not receive the warning to update. If you do not receive a warning, you SHOULD still update your Unity! All Raptor 2.1 should be updated if received before 2/15/2019.

Click “OK”

3) Once connected, swipe over to the “Firmware” tabBe sure that the drop down says “Included Firmware” and then click “Upload”The upload will take less than 10 minutes. In this time, be sure your device does not turn off, or loose Bluetooth connection.

Once the upload reaches 100%, this message will show. Click “OK”

If the upload does not reach 100% and fails mid update. You should terminate the App on your device and power cycle the Unity. Then, when you open the App extend the “Smart Switch” (in Config tab) setting timer to 20 minutes (to avoid the Unity timing out again)Then repeat step 3It is best practice to terminate and reopen the app and restart the Unity.You will need to repeat step 2) to connect to the Unity again.Next, you will click on the “Config” tab > “Motor Calibration” Drop downWith the board, wheels in the air, you will need to click on “Start Test”Next, there will be a message asking you to hand spin the wheels in the “Forward” direction.Once calibration is all complete, you will need to click on “Apply Updated Config” at the top.

6) After motor calibration, you should find the “PPM MODE” under “Remote Config” Drop down. You will need to change it from “Disabled” to “Forward/Brake”6a) SWITCH THE REMOTE TO R-SPEC MODE then Click on “Calibrate” and follow the on screen instructions and then click “Apply Updated Config” at the top of the screen.

7) The last step is to spin the motors with the remote and make sure they are spinning in the correct direction.If one or both motors are not spinning in the correct direction , you can go back to the “Motor Calibration” drop down and click on the arrow in the shape of a circle symbol. To apply changes, click on “Apply Updated Config”

Windows PC Method:

  1. You will need to have the most current version of the Focbox UI on your PC. You can find the latest Focbox UI here

Once you install that onto your computer. You will need to connect a USB C cable from the Unity to the computer and power the Unity on. To do this, click on the “Connect” tab in the UI and click “Connect USB”

  1. Once connected, The bottom of the screen will say “Connected to xxxxxx”

You may or may not receive the warning to update. If you do not receive a warning, you SHOULD still update your Unity!

Click “OK”
