An update about Boosted, your product(s) and our perspective.
Since Fatdaddy is Boosted’s retailer for Europe and we also manage repair and service for European riders, we want to make sure that you do not have to worry about anything. Both Boosted and Fatdaddy will still have you covered now and in the future.
Today Boosted Boards CEO Jeff Russakow published an open message to the Boosted Boards Community on their blog.
In this post Jeff writes about the future of Boosted and what the company is going through right now. The news made our inbox explode with worried customers. But also created a lot of rumours, fear and gossip on the internet.
Let’s start with laying off a lot of Boosted staff, it is extremely sad to have to let go of colleagues that put in hard work and share the passion. But it is a healthy decision to keep the company alive in their current situation. It’s a hard decision and something that I have been through with my company as well.
The reason behind these troubles is the US-China trade war. To get Boosted products into the United States, Boosted had to pay a significant higher import tax as the US-China trade war added a 25% tariff. This financial burden was too high for Boosted and they could not keep up with the costs of running a business.
When you design, produce and distribute a new product you need to research, develop and ship it. The first two went perfectly until they wanted to get their scooters and other products shipped to their warehouses and retailers.
The future of Boosted will definitely be different, but positive. Boosted is working on overcoming the tariff war, they already have an approval for the exclusion of electric skateboards from the heavy tariff (link). They will probably also get access to their extra tariff payments that the US government is slowly paying back. I am sure the company will get back on its feet. We as a community need to give them a little time.
What this means for Boosted customers is a delay in delivery of their orders and a delay in customer service for a little while.
Until they recover I want you to know that Fatdaddy as a Boosted Service Center and the Nr.1 Boosted retailer in Europe will keep on supporting Boosted products, Boosted repairs and will answer all your Boosted questions as much as possible. Tough times but we are willing to carry this burden.
